得個講字

網友Chris又有翻譯挑戰。我只能看熱鬧。

不過，由「講文明」，倒令人想起一個或兩個標語。似乎至今仍在「講」。

一個較簡單，是「五講四美」；另一則來個延伸，成為「五講四美三熱愛」。

有關這些口號的英譯，在大陸也不乏人討論。例如這段就很有趣。其中提到﹕

在中國媒體上，中式英語是永恆的話題之一，雷人指數與搞笑指數雙高。

例如有這樣的翻譯﹕

一些景區忽視社會文化、價值觀观念、審美趣味等方面的差異，出現中英文不符、譯名不統一、字字對應等諸多翻譯失誤，例如西樵山一標識牌上寫著「大力提倡『五講、四美、三熱愛』： We advocate ‘Five Stresses，Four Beauties（四個美人）and Three Loves（三個情人）』」。

什麼是「五講四美三熱愛」的英文意思，我不一一自那篇文章抄下來了。不如抄兩本參考書的譯文。一本是《漢英新詞語匯編》（北京語言學院出版社，1990年1月第1版），譯文照錄如下﹕

五講四美三熱愛  five particulars, four beautifuls, and three loves

In March 1983, the whole nation launched competitive activities in the " five particulars, four beautifuls, and three loves. " The five particulars to stress are: civility, courtesy, sanitation, orderliness, and morality.   The four beautifuls are: beautiful soul, speech, behavior, and evironment.  The three loves are: love of motherland, socialism, and the Communist Party. ( p.490)

另一是《中國流行新詞語》（漢英對照）（朗文，1999年初版）﹕

五講四美〔five – demands – four – beauties〕

有關建設精神文明的口號。講文明、講禮貌、講衛生、講次序、講道德和心靈美、語言美、行為美、環境美。

The “five demands and four beauties" is a slogan about building of a moral civilisation.  The " five demands" are: civilised behaviour, politeness, hygiene, discipline,  and morality; the “four beauties" are those pertaining to the soul, language, actions and environment.（頁314）

其實所謂「講」，並不只是講（speak），更是注意、重視（pay attention, stress）和講求 （strive for）意思。

要我來翻譯，實無能為力，只能抄一些不相關的東西，真是「得個講字」。
